Happy May!
It’s incredible that I’ve been away from you, my friends and students, for two whole months now. I wanted to send out this update to let you know what I’ve been up to, and make a few important announcements.
Masks, Masks, and More Masks
I’ve been busy the past two months in making over 600 masks!! Thank you for those of you who have joined me in sewing masks for local hospitals as well. I have a few more exciting ideas up my sleeves in this department still to come.
It’s been rewarding to see these masks keep people safe and well in our community. Like this thoughtful message one mask-wearer sent me the other day: “I just wanted to thank you again for all your hard work making our masks. [We] and our friends are very grateful, and I happily think of you whenever I wear mine. They were especially important last Friday when we went to —’s dad’s small graveside service. We are truly grateful.”
Summer Camps
This month I’ve made the incredibly hard decision to cancel summer camps for the summer. With so many unknowns, I just felt it was best to take this year off and spend time planning for how we can hopefully re-open the sewing school this fall. I’m also testing out some ideas for sew-along videos for my students – we’ll see how this goes!
Shout-Out to Pioneer Quilts
I made the decision last week to order fabric from one of my favorite spots in Milwaukie, Pioneer Quilts. The owner is so wonderful – she helped me order exactly what I needed and made it so easy. So much less stressful than shopping at big craft stores right now! If you want to buy fabric from them, you can visit their website or give them a call to arrange a contact-less pickup (Please know this isn’t a sponsored ad, I just love their shop and wanted to give them a shout-out!).
This Month’s Sewing Tip: Keep Sewing!
For all of my students who have sewing machines at home, keep sewing! I can’t wait to see what projects you’ve been working on when we get back together again!
I miss you all dearly and hope to see you again before long!
Keep calm and sew on,
Jolene
